Innovative business start-up moves to the BIC

The North East Business and Innovation Centre (BIC) welcomes a new innovative business to the site which will revolutionise diaries for those in the medical profession.

Doctors Friend became established in December 2014 and took office space at the BIC the very next month. Managing director, Sheridan Lloyd is currently working on an application to improve clinical diaries for those working in the health industry, he explains how he came up with the innovative idea:

“My wife is a consultant at Sunderland Royal Hospital and I designed a system for her which processes invoicing, book keeping and reminders for diagnostics tests. That offering made me think that perhaps I could do the same for others and make their working lives easier. “

“I am very much in the start-up stage at the moment but I am already excited by the reception the idea has received.”

Sheridan originally worked for another company at the BIC over 10 years ago and even though he lives in Newcastle he chose to return to the BIC with his own business:

“I thought the BIC was a space of its own in a beautiful setting and everyone I have met has been friendly and supportive. The location is excellent for me and I was really impressed with the office space in terms of amenities, warmth and light and also in the services provided like phones and the internet all in a very competitive package.”

Louise Hardy, business mentor at the BIC said: “Applications are at the core of almost all business functions impacting business performance.

“Doctors Friend is an innovative business with potential to achieve great success. It is lovely to hear that Sheridan has such positive memories of the BIC and that they helped to bring him back. We wish him all the best.”
