December 2009 - CHAMPIONS OF BUSINESS INCUBATION
A Sunderland recycling company is celebrating after being named Incubated Business of the Year at the UK Business Incubation (UKBI) Awards, little over a year after establishing at the North East BIC.
Riverking Recycling, which specialises in various aspects of Recycling, is run by a married couple, Jenifer and John Purdy, who have over 35 years of combined experience in the recycling and waste industries. The company offers a range of recycling solutions for organisations in the private and public sector. They handle removal, collection and recovery of commercial, industrial, office and residential recyclables, with the goal of providing cost efficient, professional recycling services that present significant value for their customers, and insure compliance with all regulatory requirements, as well as benefiting the environment.
Jenifer Purdy said: “Having endured the industry’s significant ups and downs and having been badly shaken, we were very apprehensive when starting this business. However, the business incubation facilities at the BIC have made this a much less frightening prospect.”
Louise Hardy, Business Mentor at the North East BIC, said: “Riverking Recycling’s strengths are in its contacts, and well-established relations with waste companies locally, nationally and globally. We are delighted that the BIC has been able to assist the couple, who clearly have drive and passion for the industry, to rechannel their business offering.”
Riverking was named as UKBI Incubated Business of the Year at the International Gala Dinner in Belfast, as part of UKBI's 11th International Conference on the 1st December 2009. The North East BIC was also highly commended in the UKBI Business Incubation Champion of the Year category.
