April 2010 - FIRM LIFTED FROM PROJECT LIMBO REACH JOURNEY’S END

Directors of a Sunderland based technology firm have finally completed their long journey to market, after their previously troubled flagship project was resurrected by a respected North East innovator.

bluejourney, now based at the North East BIC, spent over a year in limbo after their innovative communications project failed to come to life in the hands of its previous developers.

Brian McCollum, director at bluejourney, said: “After it had been in the hands of software developers for 9 months, we initially launched our product in September 2009, but it soon became clear that there were major problems with it as a result of poor development on the technology side.”

Upon realising that it was unfit for market, the directors immediately pulled back the bluejourney EMINUS product, which provides businesses with the opportunity to deliver high impact messages directly to their end customers through innovative marketing methods which utilise Bluetooth technology.

Brian said: “Obviously our reaction was to fix these problems as soon as possible and get the project back online. However, the flawed development had taken up so much of our time and money, we found ourselves in a very frustrating position.”

It was at this stage that Brian and the other directors moved their business to the BIC, where they were introduced to Peter Fullarton, managing director of innovative software firm Heridian, who agreed to review the flagging product and see if he could assist in getting it back on the market.

Brian said: “What Heridian have done for us is just phenomenal. The previous developers were based in academia, whilst what Peter and his team did was to look at the development of the project with an experienced commercial eye, immediately outlining critical quality and stability issues, which basically meant we had to start from scratch.

“In just 5 weeks, Peter and Heridian have managed to give us a robust and fully functioning version of our product. The previous developers took over 9 months, and still came up with faulty goods.”

The bluejourney ENIMUS product is now again commercially available, and the directors are currently in talks with international firms, as well as investigating potential integration of their software with world-renowned packages.

Brian, who is originally from Dublin, said: “Everything changed in January when we met Peter. Without the support that we’ve had from BIC advisers and the guys at Heridian, the company would have not survived. As soon as we came to the BIC we felt that we should have been here from the start. The support network that it has allowed us to lock into has undoubtedly saved our business and allowed it to flourish.”
