Case Study - Heridian

Peter Fullarton, managing director and co-founder of Heridian Limited launched their i-Med Portal in 2009 after attending Software Ventures. The system connects medical experts in remote areas of the world with medical professionals all over the world.

Challenge
In remote areas of the world, there are often very few medical specialists and the few that there are need to cover vast geographical areas. The challenge was to develop a system that allows medical professionals’ access to x-rays and scans from remote areas and for these images to then be analysed accurately and the diagnosis sent back to the medical staff in the remote area.

Response
Heridian launched their i-Med Portal, a web based platform that allows medical professionals to securely send and receive detailed, high resolution images to remote areas of the world. This gives a much quicker and more accurate diagnosis than has previously been possible.

Peter Fullarton, managing director said: “The Software Ventures programme was hugely beneficial to me. Not only was the content of a very high quality, but I was able to make important contacts. I needed to make connections with businesses, academia and like minded people and the programme proved to be the ideal platform. As I had been out of the country for a number of years, these contacts have proved invaluable.”

Result
The Heridian i-Med Portal is now operational in China, covering a province of 94 million people, and is being piloted in several other countries including Ethiopia, Jamaica, Kenya, Tanzania and Eastern Europe.
