Business and IP Centre Newcastle – Meet the Team

Over the last few months I have got to know the team at the Business and IP Centre Newcastle really well and I am so pleased to announce that they will be heading up sessions right here at the BIC.

A fantastic opportunity for anyone wishing to learn more about Intellectual Property.

The Business & IP Centre Newcastle is a designated PATLIB UK centre and is the only library providing specialist patent information between Leeds and Glasgow. The Centre is a partnership between Newcastle City Council, Northumbria University and Newcastle Science City and is supported by the UK Intellectual Property Office, the European Patent Office and is part funded by the European Regional Development Fund.
Intellectual Property is an important consideration for all businesses, especially those from the creative sector. Trademarks, Registered Designs and Copyright can be useful tools to help individuals and businesses protect their creative works and add value to their business.
So let me introduce the team:
Luke Burton, manager
Luke currently heads up the office at the Business and IP Centre Newcastle, manager to a team of four Luke and his team offer free intellectual property advice to SMEs to help them protect their product and services. They unravel the intellectual property process and ensure that they do not infringe anyone else’s rights.
Luke also assists with prior act searches, the patenting, trade mark and design registration processes and interrogating business information databases.
Understanding that practice makes perfect when Luke is not overseeing the management of the centre and delivering seminars he can be seen indulging in his hobby, juggling.
Aude Charillon, library and information officer
Aude will be attending the sessions with Luke, working as a Library and Information Officer Aude delivers one to one workshops and does the day to day delivery for the team.  When Aude is not offering intellectual property advice she can be seen hill walking and ice skating…although not at the same time.
SMEs must protect their business and an important part of doing so is IP protection. It should be a major factor in any business strategy so I urge anyone wishing to learn more to attend the free session here.
