Let 2013 be the year you launch your business

What better way to end 2012 than with the news that a recent survey shows 63% of students are now looking to start a business.

The report was compiled by national enterprise campaigns StartUp Britain during its tour of Britain’s universities and further education colleges this month. The survey was conducted with students aged 15 – 24 across Britain between October and November 2012. The main findings of the survey were as follows:

· 63% want to start a business
· 70% felt that a laptop followed by 13% mobile phone were the most important pieces of equipment needed to start a business
· 25% are hoping to start-up in the technology industry
· Only 0.3% felt office space was important
· 83.9% would consider applying for a Start-up Loan
· 32% saw funding and 22% experience as barriers to starting a business

It is fantastic to know that the future generation want to become their own boss. In fact 20% believe that they could make more money in doing so.

Redundancy, recession and cut backs are terms that we all hear on a daily basis, regardless of age. However one benefit of hearing these words day after day is that we have all been exposed to how important small businesses are in getting our local and national economy back on track and I’m sure in time we will all come to realise that the brave folk who start their own businesses are essential to keeping the UK on its feet.

So with that in mind, if you are fed up of working for someone else and have a passion for something you think could have the possibility of being a great business why not make it your New Year’s resolution to make an appointment with the Start Up Team and let 2013 be your most successful year.

Merry Christmas!
