Technology will not stand still

Everything changes. We are currently immersed in the ‘Digital Era’ and companies, economy, society and even us as individuals are changing…or should be.

I realise this topic has become a bit of a hobby horse of mine but I believe it is vital to the continued success of businesses and their willingness to enter into the digital sphere. So, what side of the digital age do you find yourself? Do you boldly embrace the latest digital advances with enthusiasm, or are you somewhat hesitant to change?

Is age relevant? The youth vs. experience debate is a familiar one and as the global economy becomes entirely digital, every business must form a view about who can manage and lead in a new, fast changing world. For if there is one area in the region and indeed the UK which looks recession proof it is the digital sector for it has risen against a backdrop of unemployment.

Here at The North East Business and Innovation Centre (BIC) we are an organisation who is committed to constantly moving forward and although our aim has not changed, it is now as it was then, to support the development of an innovation and enterprise culture in the North East to keep ourselves at the forefront we have changed and adapted along with the world for the last 20 years.

The BIC in conjunction with the Centre for Digital Business (CDB) are committed to supporting non-digital individuals, businesses and those who are fearful of change and technology. There is a wide array of courses on offer from social media management tools, Google analytics to managing web agencies. Suitable at whichever level you may currently find yourself.

And whilst I will never become a prolific tweeter nor will I actively use filters on my photographs, I will end with this food for thought – according to Fast Company, the fastest growing demographic on twitter is the 55-64 year age bracket, this has grown 79 per cent since 2012.
