Learn how to save a life

David HowellThe North East Business and Innovation Centre (BIC) are delighted to have been recently awarded a defibrillator by the British Heart Foundation (BHF).

This is part of an initiative by the Department of Health to make public access defibrillators and CPR training widely available in the community. So far, 14,000 lifesaving defibrillators have been placed in towns, cities and villages across the UK.

The BIC defibrillator is externally located at the main building, close to main reception.

When someone suffers a cardiac arrest, their heart stops pumping blood around their body. A bystander giving immediate CPR and defibrillation can double someone’s chances of survival.

The BIC is inviting businesses based in and around the Sunderland Enterprise Park to attend a drop-in demonstration with BHF on Friday 5th May. David Howell, director of operations at the BIC said:

“Having a defibrillator onsite is something we have considered for some time and we are delighted to have received support through BHF. With the amount of visitors that come through our doors, not to mention the 140 companies based at the BIC and many more located in the Enterprise Park, it made sense to have this lifesaving equipment onsite.

“As well as providing training to BIC staff, we felt it was important to open this to our tenants and other businesses.”

The hands on training will take place in the Thompson Suite at the BIC on Friday 5th May between 10am and 2pm.
