Re-Take That in action

Local events and entertainment business i-Stage Group are creating a musical extravaganza to launch The Sunderland International Airshow 2017.

Sunderland City Council have asked the award-winning company, based at the North East Business and Innovation Centre (BIC) in Sunderland, to produce an energetic 90 minute set to celebrate 25 years since Sunderland was granted City status. As a result, i-Stage Group are bringing together some of Europe’s finest tribute bands to take everybody back to the 90s and get the only major airshow in the North East off to a flying start.

The performance, entitled “City Life”, will feature something for everyone, highlighting the music which was shaping the newly founded City of Sunderland back in the nineties. The “pop” element of the spectacle will include The Spice Girls and Steps tribute acts belting out their famous hits to get the crowds going. Europe’s biggest Take That tribute band Re-Take That, alongside their very own Sunderland born Robbie Williams, will also be making an appearance to get the party in full swing.

The second part of the show will revisit the BritPop era, celebrating the music of British heavyweights such as Oasis, Pulp and Blur followed by a whistle-stop tour of the 90’s dance scene including some of the most anthemic hits of the time.

Paul Waite, director of i-Stage group, is delighted to be part of such an iconic event in the North East Calendar: “It is an absolute honour to work with Sunderland City Council and be able to deliver an outstanding musical showcase for visitors to the Sunderland International Air Show. We provide entertainment across the world but to be given this opportunity to offer our services at this renowned event which takes place on our doorstep makes us very proud. We love Sunderland and we can’t wait to get the City ready to celebrate what is always an incredible weekend.”

The show will culminate in a breathtaking finale led by Re-Take That who will sing “Never Forget” alongside all of the evening’s performers. Mr Waite added: The finale will give the audience a great feeling of community, togetherness and an opportunity to enjoy some nostalgia about Sunderland becoming a City. It’s going to be incredible.”

Head of Events for Sunderland City Council, Victoria French added;

“The Sunderland International Airshow provides us all with the opportunity to showcase our city, and being able to work with a Sunderland based company to provide such fantastic musical entertainment to Friday’s launch event helps demonstrate this is truly a community event.

“We hope everyone will come along and enjoy what promises to be a truly memorable occasion.

“I’m sure the audiences will love the 90s music reminding us all of that era, and how far Sunderland and its annual airshow has grown and developed over the last twenty five years.”

“City-Life” will launch the Airshow at Cliffe Park on Friday 21st July. For more information visit www.sunderlandinternationalairshow.co.uk
