1879 Events Management, which provides the catering at the home of Sunderland AFC, is to hold a Winter Wonderland Gourmet Evening on Friday 18 November, which will see a five-course menu paired with a selection of wines, specifically chosen to complement the dishes they have created.

Following a drinks reception, diners will be served a starter of wild forest mushrooms and artichoke pithivier with wild rocket, hazelnut oil and port sauce, accompanied by a glass of Les Nuages Pinot Noir.

An intermediate course of salmon served three ways – or a vegetarian option of asparagus mousse wrapped in leeks with a chervil sauce – will then be paired with Ceps du Sud Viognier; an aromatic wine with peach and apricot flavours.

A main course of rump and shin of beef, served with a pressed lasagne of winter vegetables, celeriac purée, confit potato and red win jus, or vegetable Charlotte with Madeira sauce will follow, accompanied by the dark fruit flavours of Malbec De L’Hospitalet.

A dessert of baked figs with rosemary and cream cheese mousse with shortbread and blackberry coulis, paired with Chateau Loupiac, will be followed by a cheese board comprising Northumbrian cheese alongside a Courvoisier VSOP Cognac.

David Moses, General Manager at the Stadium of Light, said the event was an opportunity to enjoy some of the best seasonal ingredients, cooked by top chefs.

“Our gourmet evenings are always incredibly popular and this one will be no exception,” he said.

“Our chefs have taken the finest seasonal ingredients and transformed them into a superb meal, which will be perfectly complemented by the wines.”

Tickets for the Winter Wonderland Evening cost £54.50 per person and can be booked by calling 0871 911 1555 or emailing conf&banq@safc.com.

Guests wishing to extend their evening by staying at the adjacent Hilton Garden Inn Hotel can ring 0191 500 9494 or email enquiries@hgisunderland.com to book or for information.
