BIC goes smarter with platinum award

By Louise Hardy
As we begin a new year, I am delighted to share that the North East BIC have been awarded the Platinum Accreditation Award by Go Smarter to Work (GSTW).

Over the past two years, the BIC has been working with GSTW to help our colleagues and customers make smarter choices when travelling to work.

Alongside our unique offering of services, we are committed to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and improving the workplace for BIC staff and the companies based on site. The award recognises the measures we have put in place for employees to travel to work more sustainably encouraging people to be more active which in turn can benefit your business.

To date, we have encouraged people to cycle to work by fitting showers in various locations and introduced electric charging points for those who have electric vehicles. We also participate in the cycle to work initiative which is supported through the Government’s Department of Transport.

Dr Bike was a huge success. This gave people the opportunity to have a free health check on their bicycle right here on site. From flat tyres to brake testing, we had it all.

GSTW also acknowledged the partnerships we have established with the Local Authority and the Universities over many years and the exclusivity of our resident business adviser. Through working with industry experts we are able to share knowledge and good practice through our busy calendar of events.

Now although we may feed you the odd bacon butty or Danish pastry at our events, we also care about keeping you healthy too. With this in mind, 2017 will see the start of our monthly Nordic walking sessions. In other words, walking with sticks!

What better way to get a break from your desk than by taking a brisk lunchtime walk in the fresh air with your colleagues and neighbours?

Of course you don’t have to be based at the BIC to join us. Just register your place, don your flat, comfy shoes and come along.

We would love to see you there.
