Do you want to sell overseas, but don’t know where to start or need to enhance your skills?

Join the Department for International Trade North East for a free in-depth virtual training programme, delivered by international trade specialists, to learn everything you need to know about trading overseas successfully.

Who’s it for?
The Export Academy is a comprehensive step by step programme, designed for goods or service selling businesses who are:
• New to international trade
• Trading overseas, but needing to upskill staff
• Trading overseas, but wanting to refresh their knowledge or fill gaps

What’s involved?
Tailor how the programme is delivered to accommodate your needs, choose from the following options:
• Option One – 10 x hourly sessions spread over 6 weeks (11 May – 17 June)
• Option Two – 4 x half day sessions spread over 4 weeks (23 June – 14 July)
• Option Three – 10 x hourly sessions spread over 6 weeks (24 August – 30 September)
The programme allows you to choose which modules are most suited to your business, whether you sell goods, services or both!

North East Women in STEM (NEWS) network meeting @ Online

There are lots of AMAZING women working in STEM in the North East and although we are very good at ‘joining the dots’ we thought it would be a great idea to get all those INCREDIBLE projects, programmes, ideas and support all in one ‘virtual’ room. As a result the North East Women in STEM (NEWS) network was born!!

This will be an informal get together of North East women all working in STEM to share ideas, make links, support, network and just generally chat about all things STEM! We hope to meet every 3 months, initially virtually but perhaps Face 2 Face very soon!

The first meeting is planned for Wednesday 23rd June from 1:00pm to 2:30pm and our confirmed speakers are;

KAY HUSSAIN – CEO, WISE

Passionate about making a difference, Kays professional career prior to WISE focused on improving the health and wellbeing of people in society, through a variety of senior leadership roles in the Pharmaceutical industry, including Managing Director for the UK & EU. Kay has successfully led teams in the development and delivery of strategic and operational plans which have enhanced efficiency, team capability, customer experience and profitability of businesses spanning over 20 years. Experience includes start-ups, new product introduction, optimisation and growth, as well as culture change, rationalisation, outsourcing, remediation, and divestment programmes.

Kay’s volunteering efforts have been aligned to helping others advance their learning and capability to proactively enhance outcomes. Activities include roles as a STEM Ambassador working with local schools and colleges, serving as a Business Mentor and part of the governing body (Educational Standards Committee) for NE Futures UTC, representing the Life Sciences industry as a senior leader in the First for Pharma network, providing private tutoring for students in Sciences and Maths, and serving as a Board Trustee for a mental health and wellbeing charity (Cygnus Support) in Northumberland.

JANINE MARSHALL – STEM CONTRACTS MANAGER, NORTH EAST STEM HUB

A qualified trainer and facilitator who has delivered STEM and Enterprise activities for over 25 years, Janine has worked closely with teachers, school senior leaders helping them to develop policies for STEM, Entrepreneurship and work-related learning. Janine also works with regional business leaders, encouraging them to engage with schools helping to bridge the gap between education and industry.

Delivering the North East STEM Ambassador programme for over 12 years, Janine’s strategic objective is providing a world-leading education support programme that encourages and inspires the next generation and future workforce. The Hub supports schools, teachers, parents and students from at all stages, as well as establishing effective national and local partnerships with employers and key STEM educational organisations.  Through a network of over 1400 STEM Ambassadors Janine brings together young people and inspiring STEM role models to help them understand the real world applications of STEM subjects and fully experience hands-on STEM activities that motivate and bring learning to life.

With additional experience in coaching and mentoring individuals who are considering self employment and business growth, Janine is also accustomed to helping people overcome barriers to enterprise.  She has developed and delivered workshops to increase entrepreneurial behaviour, motivation and develop skills for business.

PAULA MCMAHON – SIR ROBERT MCALPINE

Paula is a Civil Engineer who works for Sir Robert McAlpine as a key worker on the A19 DBFO Project which maintains part of the strategic road network. Paula also undertakes a wider role in SRM mentoring and coaching candidates who are working towards professional qualifications.

Paula has for many years volunteered with the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) and is currently the Teesside Branch Chair and North East Vice Chair. Paula also undertakes national roles chairing the Editorial Panel of the ICE Proceedings: Civil Engineering and is an ICE Lead Reviewer.  She is also the Founding Chair and driving force behind Engineering Together an inter institution group based in the Tees Valley.

Paula was recently recognised as the North East Apprentice Ambassador of the Year and ICE North East STEM Ambassador of the Year.

Paula will talk about how INWED and WES help promote Women in Engineering and why it is important for underrepresented groups to be visible. She will also share her experiences working with many amazing organisations  over the last year. She will also outline some of the ways of working has adapted to the new normal to inspire you to help someone else ’see it to be it’.

LOUISE MAULE – PROJECT LEAD, MATHS 4 GIRLS

Louise is the Project Lead for Maths 4 Girls; a programme run by Founders4Schools. Previously Louise worked as the Lead Science Practitioner and Science Learning Partnership Lead housed within the North Tyneside Learning Trust.  Through this she led several local and regional partnerships of CPD including a Science Learning Partnership programme and DfE funded ‘Aspire to STEM’.

Louise is passionate about supporting educators, families, and employers in raising outcomes for all pupils, particularly girls, to redress the balance of subject and career choices, and ultimately improving the life chances and opportunities for pupils – who are the innovators and change makers of tomorrow.

SARAH ZAMAN – CAS COMMUNITY OUTREACH MANAGER

Sarah Zaman is a primary school teacher of over twenty years who has always had a passion for computing.

She now works as part of a team of Community Outreach Managers for Computing At School (CAS), working hard to increase teacher support networks in computing in the North East.

She also works for the DFE funded National Centre of Computing Education (NCCE), promoting and providing guidance to teachers in the North East on the computing CPD courses and fully funded bespoke support available to their schools and facilitating some of their primary Computing CPD courses.

RE:CHARGE your sales strategy with the brand new, fully-funded programme of support by Supply Chain North East & New Results.

RE:CHARGE has been developed to help businesses to stay strong, recover faster and build for the future as we slowly emerge from lockdown.

At the end of the programme you will:

· Have a clear sales and business development strategy and focused quarterly action plan
· Understand how to make your clients’ buying journey as simple and effective as possible
· Develop effective, deeper questioning and listening techniques
· Be able to build trust, rapport, and deeper client relationships
· Identify and engage with larger opportunities
· Be confident in approaching and winning major clients
· Close opportunities in the most effective way

You will begin the programme with a one-to-one appointment with your dedicated SCNE Account Manager. This will help us to establish an understanding of your business and your current needs.

You will then benefit from 12 hours of business development support and training, comprising of three remote training sessions with sales experts New Results. You will use interactive, hands-on exercises to encourage applied learning of your new business development skills.

To ensure you receive personalised support for your business, the programme has a very limited number of places. You will be encouraged to collaborate and network with the other businesses as you go through the programme together.

Following the programme, you will benefit from a final one-to-one meeting with your Account Manager to cover any final questions you may have, and to ensure your business is set fair and recharged to come out of the current situation stronger than ever.

Creative Business Surgeries

A chance to book an online 1-2-1 with business adviser Victoria Moodie who can give bespoke business advice to creative businesses and individual creative practitioners based in Sunderland. From remodelling to business planning and marketing, Victoria can give free guidance and work with you on the unique challenges faced by creative businesses at this challenging time.

These 45 minute surgeries will be held over telephone or online using Zoom, whichever you prefer. Sessions available to book at 1pm, 2pm or 3pm.

At this challenging time, many creative businesses and organisations are looking to the future and considering how they adapt what they do. New enterprises are also looking to take advantage of new opportunities.

As part of the Unlock the City programme, join Victoria Moodie from the North East Business and Innovation Centre (BIC) to sketch out your business plan at this free online workshop, using a technique known as the Business Model Canvas.

This is a tool which can help you set up, expand or change the direction of your creative business or organisation. It’s a visual chart displaying all of the key elements you need to consider.

• Researching target market and reaching the right customers
