Your Gold Medal Mind Set

We all have dreams.

In the midst of the Olympics, I am inspired by all those individuals striving to achieve their goals and live their dream to be the best. He or she has to be determined, focused, committed, and tough, both physically and mentally. But not for a minute do you doubt that the Olympian athlete loves what they do …

Can you be successful by just loving what you do?

Here at the North East Business and Innovation Centre (BIC), we meet entrepreneurs every day, those with the seed of an idea to start a business or those looking to grow their businesses. It sounds corny, but it’s true, entrepreneurs must love their business. If you start a business that you don’t really care about, you’re going to find it difficult to persevere when the going gets tough. Centring your business on something you believe in is the foundation for business success. In life, we should all do what we love and love what we do.

What if others don’t believe you can succeed?

There’s a difference between constructive feedback and those comments that are negative and discouraging. As for Olympians, as for entrepreneurs, feedback is vital, to help you to adjust your business and make it more successful. A mentor, a trusted adviser or friend can offer you sound advice based on real experience as well as helping you to think through creative solutions to the challenges that you may face.

There’s an old sports cliché: “We’re just going to take it one day at a time.”

The only day that you can accomplish anything is right now, today. The work that you do today will determine what will be achieved in the future. Although it’s important to visualise your dream and have a clear vision for the future, you need to spend as much time focusing on the present. What are you going to do today to live your dream? As Seth Godwin said “Soon is not as good as now!”

Whether you want a new job, to change your lifestyle, to turn that hobby into a part time business ….consider that gold medal mind set and realise your personal potential.
