The North East Business and Innovation Centre (BIC) has achieved Gold accreditation for encouraging staff to Go Smarter to Work.
The BIC’s efforts have been recognised with the top award from the Go Smarter to Work programme, which helps businesses and employees adopt more sustainable ways to travel to work, director of operations, David Howell explains:
“The environment is important to us and as such we constantly look for solutions to reduce our energy consumption.
“Our location is very accessible, just off the A19 on the banks of the River Wear and we are encouraging the use of public transport as well as cycling / walking to work.
“We have recently installed secure cycle lockers, and with shower facilities available on site we want people to cycle and walk to work where possible.
“For our staff who wish to take advantage of other modes of transport we will support them in any way we can.
“The Go Smarter to Work programme is about helping people get to work in a way that is cheaper, greener and healthier and the BIC are pleased to support this.”
