Climate Action North extends activities to water

The latest Climate Action North initiative focuses on cleaning up areas of the North East Rivers.

The Wear and Tees Action for Rivers (WATAR) includes regular clean-up activities on the beach, on the water, on mudflats and on rocks and is delivered in partnership with marine safety partners Swiftwater Solutions with support from local landowners Sunderland Enterprise Park, and Climate Action North corporate sponsor Arktek Group Limited.

Activities will initially take place on the River Wear in Sunderland and there are plans to extend this to other rivers across the region, including the River Tees.

Climate Action North’s Managing Director, Sharon Lashley, said: “As well as actively cleaning up these areas, this initiative is very much aimed at mobilising corporate volunteers to help and there are a number of ways businesses can support these activities.

“This includes support with on-land litter picks alongside specialist volunteer help to clean up the rivers using a Water Witch boat; using a specialist services hovercraft to clean up mudflat areas, and on rocks where there are rock armour or rocky areas that are typically difficult to clean up.”

There are also opportunities through this project to install advertising banners on the boat to help raise awareness of sponsors.
