Sunderland-based creative agency Kenfolk has supported the unveiling of the refurbished Fulwell War Memorial by creating a new logo that serves as a fitting tribute to fallen heroes.
The memorial, located off Chichester Road, features a new steel artwork depicting two large poppies, created by sculptor Colin Wilbourn.
The original memorial, installed in 1930, honours the 106 Fulwell men who fought and lost their lives in World War One.

The logo, created by Kenfolk in 2022 to help raise awareness and boost fundraising efforts for Friends of Fulwell War, is a geometric representation of the shape of the footprint of the monument, subtly structured to represent a poppy – ensuring the tribute is integrated into the site’s history.
Ross Palmer, Creative Director of Kenfolk, said: “At Kenfolk, we do great work for great people and this project epitomizes that mission. Creating the logo was an opportunity to give something back to the Fulwell community and celebrate the heroes of the war.
“It’s brilliant to see the collective effort of The Friends of Fulwell coming together to bring the memorial back to where it belongs.”
Cllr Michael Hartnack, Chair of the Friends of Fulwell War Memorial, said: “Raising money to improve public spaces is never easy, but the community has come together to support this work and many individuals and businesses have contributed a significant sum towards the overall cost to provide a much improved public space and beautiful piece of art and engineering.
“It is a fitting monument to all those who have sacrificed their lives for our freedom.”
Founded in 2020, Kenfolk specialises in doing great work for great people, supporting businesses across Sunderland and the North East with brand, graphic design and web design – helping position them as leaders in their fields.
The creative agency is located in a riverside studio in the North East BIC.
