The “Start-up Stars” competition is open to all businesses in Tyne & Wear who have either set up in the last 6 months or plan to in the next 6 months.  All that budding entrepreneurs have to do, is convince the judges that their business is a start-up “star” that outclasses its competition and holds a unique selling position in the market.

The prize on offer includes:

  • 1 year’s accounting service up to the value of £1000* including self-assessment tax return, book-keeping and payroll service

  • 4X 1 hour business advice sessions with a senior business advisor (one per quarter)

  • 3 months’ of virtual office space at North East BIC

  • One year’s subscription to Sage One Cashbooks

Karen Crozier, Start-up Advisor at TTR Barnes, is excited to see the businesses that will come through the competition, “This will be a great opportunity to see the future entrepreneurs of Tyne and Wear. Often the financial side of the business is neglected by those just starting out due to lack of time or nervousness that the accountant will think them foolish, but we would like to show start-ups that good accountancy provision isn’t just something for established companies, it can make a real difference to the success rate of those just starting out.”

TTR Barnes has a long history in guiding start-ups from infancy to fully-fledged businesses.  Brian Walker MBE, of Walker Filtration, has been a client with TTR Barnes since first starting his business out of his garage in 1983.  He now employs over 200 people with plants in the USA, Japan and Australia and is firmly supporting the campaign. “I would encourage all start-ups to enter.  This is a great opportunity for one lucky business as they will benefit from the financial and technical support that comes from having a good accountant.  The right accountants are not just bean counters, they are business advisors and mentors. The best advice I had when launching the business was to “Get a good banker, get a good solicitor and get a good accountant!”  It is advice that has stood me in good stead over the years and gave me the confidence and time to focus on growing my business when I needed it most.”

The team from North East BIC is also backing the competition and has offered 3 months’ virtual office space as part of the prize package.

Paul McEldon, Chief Executive North East BICChief executive, Paul McEldon said: “It’s great to be part of a competition that aims to support ambitious individuals during this stage of their business lifecycle.  The learning curve for all new ventures is steep and the right support can really make a difference. Our virtual working space at the BIC offers businesses a flexible and prestigious working environment to help nurture business success. With the help from TTR Barnes and ourselves at the BIC, we would expect great results for the chosen winner.”

The competition is running until 15th May and can be entered online at www.ttrbarnes.com with full details and terms and conditions of the competition listed on there.
