Sunderland Legends to Headline Charity Dinner

SUNDERLAND AFC heroes will join two comedy favourites at an event to raise cash for a North East charity event next month (November 4).

The city’s Stadium of Light will play host to a Sporting Dinner which will help boost funds for Hope 4 Kidz.

The event will feature four Sunderland legends – Dick Malone, Kevin Ball, Ritchie Pitt and Micky Horswill, who boast an incredible 36 years of service at the club between them – in a night of sporting stories and comedy.

Malone, Horswill and Pitt were all part of the Sunderland squad which won the FA Cup in 1973, while Ball is one of the club’s big hitters from the 1990s who later returned in a caretaker manager capacity twice.

They will be joined on the night by comedians Steffen Peddie and Tony Burgess.

Stand-up star Peddie is probably best known for his role of Big Keith in BBC TV’s Hebburn, while Burgess is one of Manchester’s top comedy favourites and appeared in former BBC 3 show Ideal.

The night will include a four-course dinner, a drink on arrival and raffles, auctions and a mystery door prize, with all proceeds going to Hope 4 Kidz annual free Santa’s Christmas Party in Sunderland for children with special needs.

The Sunderland-based charity helps disadvantaged young people who are living with life-limiting illness, special needs or are living in poverty, and is funded entirely by the support of kind-hearted individuals and the business community.

Viv Watts of Hope 4 Kidz said: “We are all very excited about this event. These are four of the most famous players to ever tread the hallowed turf at Roker Park and the Stadium of Light, so to have them supporting our cause is fantastic.

“We look forward to welcoming guests to what promises to be a brilliant evening.”

Tickets cost £45 each and are available by calling Hope 4 Kidz on 0191 534 7788 or emailing info@hope4kidz.org.uk. For more information on Hope 4 Kidz click here
