Reiki practitioner starts own business

An entrepreneur has set up her own business after finding the effects of Reiki so great.

Liz Cairns turned to holistic therapy when she found herself suffering with anxiety and found the results to be so effective it inspired her to become qualified in Reiki and become her own boss.

Liz Cairns and Debbie SimpsonLiz discovered Reiki, a Japanese technique which involves hand placements to release energy through the body, eight years ago and to help Liz get started she visited the North East Business and Innovation Centre (BIC) and was appointed business adviser Debbie Simpson. The project is being financed by the European Union’s ERDF Competitiveness Programme 2007-13, securing £1.07m ERDF investment. Working in a consortium led by North East Enterprise Agencies Ltd (NEAL) local Enterprise and Development Agencies in the North East have matched this ERDF investment with £1.07m of their own funds. Liz explains:

“I was at a point in my life where I suffered greatly from anxiety and stress and as a result I found myself off work for months. After seeing such positive effects from the Reiki sessions I attended, I decided that I wanted to become qualified and share with others what I had taken from it.

“I visited the BIC and met with Debbie who really was liquid gold. She gave me not only practical advice but she was an inspiration. After telling myself I was being silly for thinking I could Debbie only gave me sensible advice and to believe in myself.

“To learn more about what is involved in running your own business I attended the BIC’s events and seminars and got sound advice in writing my business plan. I can’t thank the BIC and Debbie enough and I still pinch myself to think I have my own company now doing what I love.

“Reiki is a pure treatment and everyone who leaves the session leaves feeling calmer and more relaxed. Clients are fully clothed and I make the room as relaxing as possible with soft music and candles.

“Debbie has taught me to think big and my dream is to open a ‘feel good factory’ where people come in feeling one way and leave feeling so much different.

“For anyone having problems with sleep, aches and pains, digestive issues, stress, headaches and much more please take the time out and invest in yourself.”

Liz now finds herself giving presentations on how to combat stress and has even gone into partnership with Jewellery Moments, offering jewellery inspired by Reiki, as well as offering new packages for Parent and Baby and Brides to Be.

Debbie added:

“Liz’s passion for Reiki was evident from our very first meeting, she took on all advice she was given and she was an absolute joy to work with. I wish her all the very best.

“I would urge anyone out there who has a business idea and wishes to become their own boss to please get in touch with us here at the BIC, our team of experienced advisers have helped thousands of people succeed by providing hands on practical advice.”
