Finance Assistant

Responsible to: IT/Finance Manager

Salary: Up to £27,500.00

Based: North East Business and Innovation Centre with travel to other sites in the region as required.

About the Role

We are looking for a proactive and detail-oriented Finance Assistant to join our Finance team. This is a varied and hands-on role, offering the opportunity to play a key part in supporting the day-to-day financial operations of the organisation.

You’ll work closely with colleagues across the business, ensuring financial processes run smoothly while maintaining accuracy and compliance.


Key Responsibilities

  • Manage daily cash flow, monitoring bank accounts and ensuring funds are allocated effectively
  • Raise sales invoices and purchase orders promptly
  • Process staff expenses accurately and within agreed timescales
  • Handle supplier payments in line with company payment terms
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records across:
    • Sales ledger
    • Purchase ledger
    • Nominal ledger
  • Record incoming payments and issue monthly customer statements
  • Bank cash and cheque payments
  • Support credit control activities, including chasing outstanding debts and assisting with debtor reporting
  • Process journals, including monthly accruals
  • Administer payments for associated companies and projects
  • Manage direct debit collections, including setup and ongoing administration
  • Produce and maintain financial reports and spreadsheets
  • Maintain and monitor all business Rates movements across all centres
  • Maintain and monitor spreadsheets for all utility activity across all meters and sites etc
  • Process recurring monthly invoices and grant payments
  • Support the preparation of documentation for UKSPF funding claims


Additional Responsibilities

  • Provide general administrative support to the Finance team
  • Ensure compliance with ISO 9001 standards and internal procedures
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of processes and services
  • Work flexibly across the department and support other teams when required

  • Strong communication skills and a team-focused attitude
  • Experience working in a finance or accounts role (desirable)
  • Familiarity with accounting systems and Microsoft Excel (desirable)
