Sunderland-based property consultancy, The North East Surveying Co, has secured office space at the North East BIC as it launches a new specialist division to help regional landlords navigate shifting landscapes.
Founded by Chartered Building Surveyor Martin Watson, the business has seen steady growth since its launch in 2023. Having joined the BIC’s coworking space, Martin has taken steps to secure a riverside office space as the business expands its offering to its growing client base.
The North East Surveying Co are now offering property investment agency services, supporting landlords and investors in navigating a complex regulatory landscape.
Having started his career as an apprentice electrician, Martin realised his passion lay in property investment and development, leading him to retrain as a building surveyor, and securing a high-profile placement working on major projects at the Houses of Parliament.

Graduating from Northumbria University in 2015, Martin worked for a North East commercial building consultancy, gaining RICS chartership in 2019 before launching The North East Surveying Co in 2023.
Martin Watson, founder of The North East Surveying Co, said: “There are significant changes happening within the property investment market, and landlords are under more pressure than ever to be compliant. Our aim is to provide clear, professional advice that helps clients make confident decisions about their portfolios.”
Moving into a dedicated space at the BIC has enabled Martin to build a new infrastructure for scaling, develop professional content for clients, and plan for future growth, while remaining connected to a vibrant business community.
Martin added: “One of the main reasons I’ve always come to the BIC is the sense of community. When you work for yourself, it’s easy to feel isolated, but here you’re surrounded by other businesses who are growing and facing similar challenges.”
The BIC offers flexible workspace, business support and networking opportunities to help businesses start, grow and scale. The North East Surveying Co’s journey from coworking to a private office highlights how businesses can progress within the BIC as their needs evolve.
Doreen Howard, Centre Manager at the North East BIC, said: “Martin’s story is a great example of how businesses can grow at the BIC. By providing flexible space and a collaborative environment, we’re able to support ambitious entrepreneurs develop sustainable businesses that contribute to regional growth.”
With demand increasing for professional, compliance-led property advice, Martin sees continued growth opportunities and plans to further develop the business in the coming months.
