Recruitment business invests in new home to power growth
Specialist HR recruitment consultancy Sarah McKenna HR Recruitment has invested in a new base at the North East BIC, as it embarks on a new chapter of growth and innovation.
Founded by experienced recruiter Sarah McKenna, the business has built a strong reputation over the past eight years for placing all levels of HR professionals across the North East and Yorkshire region. Known for its personal, honest approach and deep understanding of cultural fit, the consultancy has grown organically through referrals from both clients and candidates.
Now, with the launch of a brand-new service ‘the Recruitment Review’, the company is expanding its offering to support HR professionals and growing businesses in a whole new way.
“After so many years in recruitment, it feels good to be adding something new,” said Sarah. “I’m still recruiting – that’s just part of who I am, but now I’m also helping businesses improve how they recruit themselves.
“In a progressively challenging talent market this will help hiring managers and HR teams enhance their brand in the market to ensure they attract and retain the best talent across their business.”

Designed to help time-stretched HR teams take control of their recruitment processes, the Recruitment Review offers an affordable, comprehensive audit of the whole recruitment journey, identifying what’s working, what’s not and how to improve.
It provides practical tools to empower managers to hire quality candidates faster, interview fairly and confidently, communicate values at every stage, deliver thoughtful onboarding, and reduce reliance on agencies.
“There’s nothing quite like this out there for small businesses,” Sarah added. “I genuinely light up when I talk about it because I know how many challenges this will solve for HR managers.
“So many of them want to improve their recruitment processes but simply don’t have the time or headspace to step back and make it happen – this gives them the clarity and tools to finally do that.”
The move to a new unit at the BIC’s Sunderland riverside location reflects the consultancy’s ambitions for growth and innovation. With plans to build a network of associates, launch new communities for talent and HR professionals, and expand popular HR leadership roundtable events beyond Leeds and Yorkshire, Sarah sees the BIC as a natural home for her evolving business.
“Our move to the BIC feels like the reset we didn’t know we needed,” Sarah said. “We’re embarking on an exciting new chapter of opportunity and growth, and I know we’re in the right place to do that.
“The strength of the community is what really sets the BIC apart. There are so many diverse and interesting businesses and it’s fantastic to be part of the local business network.
“Everyone we have met so far has been so friendly and helpful. There’s a real buzz about the place and that really makes a huge difference to us as a small team.”
